A Note From Fran

Winding Down the Summer

What a great, inspiring summer this has been. The weather has been great, the Olympics have been phenomenal, and the young people are proving once again if you give them your time and support they can do fabulous things.

I keep pinching myself, wondering okay when are July and August really going to show up. This weather can't be for real. All I can say is WHEW HEW!!! I love it! I don't know about you but the weather affects my life, in so many more ways than it should. If it's super hot and balmy I detest being outside. I'm not one of those people who perspire elegantly. I sweat profusely. First thing in the morning, no joke, from my front door to the car I can develop this aura of funk that can follow me an entire day. Needless to say when it's breezy and easy, Fran is cover girl from 9 to 5!

Beijing OlympicsNow on to Beijing! WOOOOOWWWW. Yes, Michael Phelps is unquestionably a phenomenal athlete. He along with Dara Torres, the senior of the pack, at 41 and five time Olympian (YOU GO GIRL!), helps us former athletes reminisce on the way it was when we ruled the track, pool and courts. Those were the days. And the gymnasts... they just give me goose bumps. All that fabulosity, talent and ability in those compact, efficient bodies. Grace in motion... that's what I call it.

Now back to home. For those of you who haven't read our blog or websites lately, we're doing a bit of the happy dance ourselves here at Aerobodies. This summer we launched a small but high impact program called MECKids.com. Our pilot has successfully enrolled 50 area students to get fit, healthy and inspire each other in a new virtual, hip, online environment. We even had a Bootcamp where a few of the kids showed up to prove their success is real and not just artificially inserted online. One young lady, Adrianna, who is just adorable, has already lost weight. In her own mother's words, "This girl has never been SO excited about exercise. I've been wanting her to do something about her weight for years!" This MECKids thing really works. You can read more about it on our blog: http://blog.myequilibriumcoach.com/

Five Tips Kids Use to Stay Fit

Five Tips Kids Use to Stay Fit

Most adults will agree, kids can do amazing things when you give a little time, energy and support (check out our blog and you'll see what we mean, http://blog.myequilibriumcoach.com. But seriously, some kids have figured out staying healthy and fit need not be a chore, as some grown ups think of it. One member of the MECKids program actually said, "My mom has been watching me and my little brother, wearing our pedometers and trying not to eat too much junk food and I think she's finally going to start working out herself. She really needs to."

Well said Arianna. So here are a few tips our kids are using to increase steps and burn calories on their pedometers. Why not try a few on for yourself.
1- First thing in the morning when getting out of bed, put on your pedometer, stretch and then walk in place for 10 minutes.

2- While cleaning the house or working in the yard - set the timer or wear a pedometer to calculate the number of calories and steps.

3- Go outside for a brisk 10-minute walk three times during an 8 or 9-hour workday. Thirty minutes of exercise can be very effective even if it's in separate segments throughout the day.

4- Clean out that old closet or garage. It may take you an hour and with all the bending and reaching, you will work your arms, glutes and back.

5- Get in a quick strength training workout between work meetings: do 10 pushups against the wall, use your desk triceps dips and finish up with some Abs work (10 double knee lifts while seated).

6- If you're like me and you like to sleep late while vacationing, wait until evening or mid day and get your workout on.

7- Grab a game of volleyball. Go for a quick swim or body board with your kids; hours will feel like minutes and the family time will be valued as a lifetime of memories!

Getting in a workout can be easy.. and if you need a little inspiration, ask a kid to help!
