A Note From Fran

New Look...New Happenings...New Shoes

Hip!!! Hip!!! Can you tell how siked I am that the New Year has begun? I love change (which most of you, my favorite readers know well), since I talk about changes and challenges in just about every other newsletter I write! Can you tell I'm really into this change thing?

Perhaps "change" is too broad. Perhaps what I really mean is the evolution of life. Those new occurrences or opportunities that shape our lives and make them more meaningful. Often those occurrences create discomfort or temporary tribulations in our lives that we'd rather not experience. However, most highly successful people will tell you that it is through these adversities or challenges in life that we grow, learn and evolve into stronger, wiser, more adaptable human beings.

That is exactly what each New Year ALWAYS represents to me. The opportunity to grow and develop while supporting and serving others in their quest to do the same. This year Aerobodies is taking on a few new challenges and opportunities of its own. We hope that you will share this wild and exciting ride with us. Take a look at the list below and don't be surprised as we roll out more and more new opportunities as they come our way:

Six Things You Should Know Before Buying Exercise Shoes

The "big wall of shoes" at the sporting store can be intimidating. It's kind of like being in a restaurant with too many menu options; what do you choose? Follow these six steps to a great shoe purchase:

1. Know your own feet. Look at a pair of your old sneakers and check the wear. Does you foot roll inward or outward? Most brands of shoes have several types to fit any foot.

2. Shop later in the day. Feet swell as the day goes on, so if you purchase shoes in the morning you may find them to be too snug in the afternoon.

3. Buy shoes that feel good when you try them on. If they are too small, don't buy them thinking they will stretch out. Some leather exercise shoes may stretch a bit, but nylon mesh shoes will remain the same for the life of the shoe.

4. If you are a man, buy a man's shoe. If you are a woman, buy a woman's shoe. Shoes are made on forms that are specific to men and women.

5. it's worth the time to shop around for a store that has experienced sales people who can discuss your unique needs and concerns for use, durability and fit. Some running shoe stores have salespeople trained to watch you run in their shoes, analyze your gait and footfall, and recommend the right pair of shoes for you. Try on several pairs in various brands before buying. I like Fleet Feet and Pacers as stores with knowledgeable sales people.

6. Do some of your exercise moves while trying on shoes.

7. Buy shoes for what you do most. If it's running, running shoes it is. If you also play a sport, such as tennis or basketball, in addition to your other workouts, buy shoes specifically for those sports.

8. Ask if the shoe has a "life". With running shoes, for instance, the salesperson may be able to tell you how many miles the shoe will last you for. This is a good to know when evaluating the cost of shoes.

Trainer Spotlight - Athletic Conditioning Specialist - Brian Lawrence

The New Year has ushered in many new and exciting changes and additions to the Aerobodies Fitness Company. One of which is our new team member, Brian Lawrence, Athletic Conditioning Specialist.

Could you stand to improve your GOLF swing, improve your agility on the basketball court or improve your muscle power in the pool or on land….Brian Lawrence is your man! Here's a quick autobiographical sketch on Aerobodies newest team member:

I have been into physical fitness my entire life. I was heavily active in several sports but excelled more in football. I had a brief collegiate football career which was cut short by injury. Non-the-less, I continued to stay active at a high athletic level. After college I became a speed athletic trainer for a company called Pro-Speed and am currently certified by (NAFTA)-National Aerobics and Fitness Trainers Association

At Pro-Speed we specialized in sport specific training. We trained professional athletes from the (MLS) Major League Soccer, to NFL football players. We also worked with many amateur and high school athletes. Our goals at Pro-Speed were to take an individual athlete and bring them to a higher level of athletic ability. We did this by developing programs that enhanced their running speed, coordination, power, quickness, endurance, flexibility, and balance.

My goals for the physical fitness industry are to create and establish a healthy and fit community. I want to be a positive influence in peoples lives by helping and encouraging them to live more healthier and productive lives.

With my background and knowledge in the physical fitness field and my compassion for our community, I believe that I will play a vital role in making our society a healthier one.

My other love besides fitness is my music. I have written and composed many musical compositions. I love all kinds of music but my favorite is rock-n-roll. My main writing tool is my guitar. I also write many orchestra arrangements to accompany my songs. I usually like to record once a year and each year my music evolves.

Trainers Secrets

The MVe...Your In-Home Training System
A Refreshing Mind-Body Workout

Pilates gets your mind in tune with your body. By emphasizing proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment, and complete concentration on smooth, flowing movement, you become acutely aware of how your body feels, where it is in space, and how to control its movement. The quality of movement is valued over quantity of repetitions. Proper breathing is essential, and helps you execute movements with maximum power and efficiency. Last but not least, learning to breathe properly can reduce stress.

Pilates elongates and strengthens. Improving muscle elasticity and joint mobility is the focus. A body with balanced strength and flexibility is less likely to be injured.
