A Note From Fran

Spring into Action... Can you be a mentor?

Did you miss us? Well if you did, let me start by offering my apologies to our loyal, regular readers. April was a fast and furious month. We had so many new projects in the pipeline that unfortunately our bi-monthly newsletter had to take a back seat. I missed connecting with all of you however and I'm happy to say we're back on track with many fabulous features to our team and service offerings... so let me tell you what's new?

First off, we relaunched our online, health & fitness website and we’ve received great feedback on the look and feel of the new site. So check it out and sign up now at www.myequilibriumcoach.com. We’ve added a BMI calculator and a few other fantastic features to keep you accountable and focused on your health and weightloss goals so go check it out.

Next, Aerobodies & MyEquilibriumCoach are taking a big step in giving back to the community by getting involved with a summer tutor/mentor program with the DC Public Schools (DCPS). Interestingly, most of the companies that are getting involved with the tutoring program are fairly large (i.e. Accenture and Fannie Mae for starters). So we've decided as a company to pull together a team of tutors and mentors from our fitness, lifestyle and medical consultants departments.

To ensure we program success DCPS has stated that we can also reach out to our network of clients and customers for a balanced size team. In this initiative our company will adopt a DC Public School and facilitate a tutoring/mentoring curriculum that will help students improve their test scores and overall academics and we need your help! We are reaching out to you our readers. If you or anyone you know would be interested in joining our team, let us know immediately! You can contact our strategic solutions coordinator, Susie Clark at, susiec@aerobodies.com.

Giving of yourself is the greatest gift you can give! In love and good health,

Weightloss at Work – "5 Quick Steps to Drop15 Pounds!"

5 Quick Steps to Drop 15 Pounds!

By Brian Lawrence

For the past 5 weeks, I've been leading the MyEquilibriumCoach Bootcamp Challenge for ten women ages 25 – 55. The focus of the challenge was to provide an online tracking and motivational platform for the participants to manage their health and get fit. Most of the women were focused on losing weight and shaping up. However a few simply wanted to feel more energetic and get back into their favorite jeans.

I'm happy to report we've had some incredible success stories with the boot camp enrollees. As you'll soon read (in this same issue of Healthy Reflections) Susie Clark has reached a real milestone, dropping 15 pounds! And she's striving for more.

Since we've had such great success with the MyEquilibriumCoach challenge, I thought I'd share some of my insider trainer tips I've been using to help get these wonderful women get into their best shape. I like to think of it in 5 easy steps of... "MIXING IT UP"

Step 1 – Let's say your cardio regimen consists of a nice jog a few times a week, but you're getting burned out and loosing interest or motivation. Sign up for a sports league. You could do soccer or basketball. The point is the different types of drills you'll use in your new sport will challenge your muscles in alternative ways than jogging (which has become your comfort zone).

Step 2 - Take strength conditioning outside the gym. Why not go for a hike in Great Falls or your favorite local park. A visit to a rock climbing studio can also put the burn in your muscles while you lift your own body weight instead of iron.

Step 3 - Try a little healthy competition. Most cities and towns are flush with short competitive walk, runs and even a triathethelon this time of year. Why not sign up for a 5 or 10K for the summer. That's one of Susie's goals and its keeping her focused on maintaining her health and weight loss over the next couple of months.

Step 4 - Invite a group of friends to workout with you. This can be a huge learning and loads of fun. In fact I tried this in another one of my small group training classes and they loved it. Each person was responsible for bringing a new exercise to the session for the day. It was a real blast and everyone felt empowered.

Step 5 - Try a new environment. When is the last time you worked out by the lake, on the mall, ran the Capitol Steps or ran through your favorite park or forest? My bootcamp ladies really enjoyed this part of the workout because they never knew where we were going next and it really added to the momentum of the training challenge.

Whatever you decide to do, just remember to mix it up. Your workouts will be more enjoyable plus you'll stay engaged over the long haul. Check out Susie's interview that follows. She's definitely putting this strategy to good use. Remember if you have questions, email me at BrianL@aerobodies.com.

15 Pounds Less and Counting!

Recently we sat down with Susie Clark, Strategic Solutions Coordinator for Aerobodies, Inc. to discuss her highs/lows and success with the MyEquilibriumCoach online program. Susie was happy to share, especially since her weight loss as of April 27 was 15 POUNDS LIGHTER.

Susie, where are you now with the challenge?
"I've lost a total of 15 pounds so far and I feel unbelievably great!"

We know Brian is a killer master trainer, but what are you doing specifically to get such results?
"I really watch what I eat now, incorporating dairy, and trying to get exercise in at least three times a week."

What are you eating?
"I've added fresh fruits and vegetables to my diet and also whole grain breads and pastas. I replaced the soda I used to drink daily and now I have water instead. Also, I make it a goal to get all my water every day."

Have you had any struggles?
"Sure, I can't say that I have been perfect, but I have made permanent changes in my lifestyle. It is the small things that make a difference! I try to take time everyday to read about different things that can help me accomplish my goals, and that keeps it at the forefront of my mind. I highlight different articles and talk about my journey on our blog, http://blog.myequilibriumcoach.com. This keeps me focused and motivated. Also having the journals on the MyEquilibriumCoach site helps me stay on track, because I'm learning how to make small adjustments in my life, the things I do and especially what I eat."

Do you have any goals you're working on?
"I set a goal to run a 5K marathon by September. So I'm trying to get in Yoga & Pilates, and run when I can. I can get bored so easily. I set my goals high, but I know I can accomplish anything!"
