A Note From Fran
Push the Envelope...Find your Synergy
Pushing the envelope...everyday we hear this in the following mantras to: "Live your Best Life, Be Present, Make every moment count!" But what do these statements mean...really?
A few weeks ago I spoke at an International Meeting Planners event in Atlanta, Georgia and challenged those in attendance to do just that but with a slightly different twist. I asked the group, "When do you feel most alive and what makes your heart sing."
All of the responses were both provocative and poignant. But the response that most grabbed my attention came from a soft spoken female executive. She related, "I feel most alive when I spend time writing and listening to jazz. I really feel alive and I do some of my best work and creative thinking."
When I asked, "How often does this happen?, she remarked, "Not often enough." So of course I challenged her to do 5 minutes a day of free flow writing, "don't even let the pen off the pad," I said. "When the timer stops don"t just reflect on what you wrote, notice your mood, your way of thinking and what possibilities open up as a result."
So what about YOU? Do you feel alive and CONNECTED to your life right now or do you need to Push the Envelope and find your Life Synergy again. Perhaps if you do you might inspire others to do the same.
Write and tell us and we"ll share your story.
In love and good health,

Speed Up Your Metabolism
By: Natalie Nickerson
Program Manager
Why speed up the metabolism? To Lose Weight or at least maintain it easier! Metabolism is the process by which your body breaks down your food and converts it into energy. Energy comes from the things we eat and if you are not eating much or eating too much of the wrong things you could be in trouble.
Millions of flexible cells throughout your body swell up with extra fuel, saving it for later. Those cells are called fat cells and fat is an efficient way of storing energy for later. Your body can convert any kind of fat back into energy when it is ready. In order to master your metabolism and keep it at a high level try the following:
- Exercise. Naturally the more you move the more calories you will burn. Regulate your exercise regimen and you will keep your metabolism high, and the pounds will melt away more effortlessly. With a higher metabolism you will stay alert and happy more often.
- Eat Breakfast, Lunch AND Dinner. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because our bodies have been at rest for a while and in a fasting state. In order to get your metabolism moving for the day, you have to put something in to trigger the metabolism to restart for the day at hand. A good breakfast jumpstarts your entire system including: the brain, digestive system senses and muscle power. Getting a good jumpstart makes you more active and can aid in weight loss. Skipping breakfast can keep you in a lethargic state so you move less and burn fewer calories. Be sure to get protein with your breakfast so that you will stay fuller longer. Try making dinner a small meal and either breakfast or lunch a larger meal and see a change in weight and waist measurements.
- Drink Water. Our bodies are about two-thirds water and water is needed for just about every major function occurring in the body. Without enough water, all of your systems begin to malfunction and the metabolism will do the same. With dehydration comes sluggishness because there isn't water to transfer fuel to your muscles and brain. Get enough water daily and keep your metabolism moving at a high rate.
- Sleep Well. Less sleep generally means eating more which can lead to unwanted pounds. Burning the candle at both ends will not make you burn more calories during the extra time awake so go ahead and get some sleep. When you wake up, you will feel more energetic and overall will burn more calories – and feel much better about life.
- Fidget. Research has been able to show that slender people fidget more. Don't feel like you have to plan long bouts of exercise to make a difference. Make it an effort to make several tiny movements throughout the day and you could possibly fidget away 350 extra calories or an extra 35 pounds a year!
Learned something new? Then try it out now. A faster metabolism is a person's best friend. It keeps the fat away and keeps you light on your feet everyday.
