A Note From Fran
Marriage & Life 101
Whenever I tell people my husband and I run a business together I often get this bewildered gaze of curiosity, as if they want to say "why in the world would you want to do something like that?" I usually just shake it off with confidence and keep moving.
However recently, our family/business situation has changed. My husband Timothy has left the company and is now part of a unique, chosen few (25 out of 1000 recruits) now enrolled in the Arlington County Fire Fighters Academy. The responses I got at first were even more bizarre than before, "What, why did he leave? Does he know what he's getting into?" As if we were getting a divorce.
If you have friends or family that are involved in a family owned business then you know it can be a blessing and a curse. Needless to say I am tickled pink (or in my case: a toney brown) that my husband is now pursuing HIS passion. One he's held since he was a little boy. I am convinced grown men are little boys in disguise...they still all want to fly! My hubbie is truly flying now. It's been such a joy to see him in his element since he's mainly been in mine 5 of the 8 years we've been married.
Marriage is a wonderful institution...an even better one when your partner is happy and fulfilled individually. It gives me goose bumps all over again to see my man happy. Check out his fire drill on our blog, he's a riot.
Life is Good!
In love and good health,

Five Best Tips to Track Body Fat |
BY: Jaci Sellenrick
How is your exercise program working out for you?? If you are not seeing visible results, it may be hard to believe that your effort is worth it. But do not be discouraged or less motivated!!!
Weight scales may not be the only way to see results for your body. There are many different ways to approach your progress in terms of seeing good results faster. The following approaches can help you measure your progress so that you can feel good about the time you are putting in at the gym.
Body Fat Analysis
Although the scales may be saying you have not lost much weight, maybe you have actually lost some fat but added some weight in muscle - - that is still important progress. So, get your body fat tested in 4-week intervals. The skin fold caliper test is accurate, easy and most cost-effective.
Fitness Log
Keeping track of cardio, sets, repetitions and amount of weight lifted on each exercise is a great way to see how far you have come and where you would like to go. Keep graphs of your body fat percentages (every 4 weeks) and weight loss (once a week). You can also chart number of push-ups accomplished in one session (weekly) or even minutes of cardio completed (daily or weekly).
Pedometer
A pedometer is a great way to measure your progress. Just clip a pedometer onto your belt in the morning and see how many steps you take for three days. The ultimate goal is 10,000 steps per day, which is the recommended amount for weight loss.
Air Test
Sucking air during your treadmill run/walk will become a thing of the past. One way to track this is to wear a heart rate monitor. If your training range is 130-150 beats per minute, and you are huffing around130-140 beats per minute, then after a month of regular workouts you will need to work up around the 150 range to feel the same intensity. This is proof that you are improving!
Girth Measurements
Can you pinch an inch? Remember the old Kellogg's Corn Flakes slogan. It's true though. Pinching an inch or measuring your inches (girth) using a tape measurer is a quick, inexpensive way to see if you're really making progress. As you begin a new workout program have a friend or family member measure you biceps, chest, abs, hips and thighs. Then follow-up and recheck these sites every six weeks. Girth measurements are golden to personal trainers because they reveal clearly a clients progress.
No matter which way you choose…remember the only way you can know for sure you're making progress is by tracking it!
