This Year, Be Passionately Productive

Are you productive in your day-to-day work? If you feel that you’re not as productive as you’d like to be, there could be many reasons for it. With 2020 now in full swing, it’s the perfect time to pause and take stock of what you’re doing to earn income. Your career should offer you opportunities to do what you love at least 85% or more of the time. Every job has tasks or obligations that may be tedious or that you don’t enjoy doing. However, if you’re spending most of your time doing things you don’t enjoy, chances are you won’t be productive no matter what techniques you use.

The more you enjoy your work, the more productive you’ll be.

Some people continue their careers for many years doing something they’re not passionate about. With a little bit of research, they could have made a transition and pursued a new direction. If you find yourself in this position, and you want to take action, begin by researching opportunities within your current company. You may be able to make a lateral switch within your organization that will revitalize your work life.

Maybe you enjoy your current position, but you’re not as passionate about it as you used to be. Taking on a new project or learning something new can help you add vitality to your long-term job. Just as you do with personal relationships, you’ll need to give attention to and nurture your relationship with your work. When was the last time you felt at peak performance in your job? You’ll recognize peak performance when you feel it. Hours can go by when you’re enjoying something you’re doing, and you’ll look up and think only ten minutes have passed. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a project manager, pharmacist, physicist, or pet walker. If you love your work and feel a sense of pride, honor, and integrity about what you do, then it’s the right career for you.

If you’ve taken action and nothing seems to bring you the energy and excitement you want to feel about your work, a great personal coach or mentor might be what you need. A skilled coach or mentor can help you determine what changes you can make to help you get back on track. You might need to switch careers or industries to get where you want to be. It’s not always easy or possible to find the right coach or mentor at the right time. To bridge that gap until you find the right person, begin by reading a great book or taking an informative course by someone you admire. Read their stories and create an action plan based on those stories. Find yourself a work superhero and follow in his or her footsteps!

Your physical and mental health are essential to your professional productivity.

If you’re feeling tired in the morning, at night, and on the weekends, there may be a health issue you need to address. If you’re not taking care of yourself physically, it’s crucial to address that. Personal problems can also impede your work productivity. Don’t overlook what you need to get yourself back to a state of good health.

A cluttered workspace, whether it’s at home or in the office, can be a huge factor in limiting your productivity. If you find yourself escaping to a coffee shop or an isolated part of your home that’s not your typical office, you may have a problem. Stacks of papers, magazines, and general clutter can have an impact on your mental clarity. Completely clean and de-clutter your office every three months, and your workspace will be clean, calm, and clutter-free. A calm work environment will provide you with an opportunity to focus on what you need to do and will make it so much more enjoyable!
